Wonderful job this week
analyzing the descriptive writing in “Of Mice and Men” as well as our reading from
Collections “Deep Survival.” Your landscapes based on the writing are coming
out GREAT! Reread the passage from collections below and complete one of the
levels below.
***If you are unsure of which level to complete,
begin with Level 1 and continue to level 2 and 3 if you are able to
successfully complete each level.
Juliane was flying with her mother on Christmas
Eve, when lightning struck. Juliane fell
out of the broken airplane into the jungle. She was seventeen years old, wearing
her dress and white heels. She suffered only cuts and a broken collarbone from
the crash.
As she recalled, "I remember thinking that
the jungle trees below looked just like cauliflowers." She wasn't
screaming; she wasn't in a panic. She was in wonder at the world in which she
found herself.
Amazing and also characteristic of a true
survivor- senses increasingly sharp.
Level 1: Think of a time when your
senses were extremely SHARP. Describe where you were. What was happening? How
were you feeling?

Level 2: Think of a time when your senses were
extremely SHARP. Describe what was happening using the 5 senses to describe the
event in detail.
I saw –
I heard-
I tasted-
I felt-
I smelt-
Level 3: Think of a time when your senses were
extremely SHARP. Describe what was happening using the 5 senses to describe the
event in detail. Why were your senses
stronger during this experience?
