Read the below passage from
Collections “Rituals of Memory” that addresses our theme of Identity that we
have been focusing on as we read our book of the month “The Absolutely True
Diary of a Part-Time Indian.” Please complete ONE of the levels below.
***If you are unsure of which level to complete,
begin with Level 1 and continue to level 2 and 3 if you are able to
successfully complete each level.
Level
1: Describe a memory that is important to you.
Level
2: Describe a memory that is important to you. How does this memory affect you
are?
Level
3: Describe a memory that is important to you. How does this memory affect you
are? How do memories connect people together?
Rituals of
Memory
Memory begins with various
wonders. For my friend Mary, it began with hair. Her hair grew tightly curled.
Brushing and combing brought tears. When Mary tried to run her fingers through
her hair as she saw others do, her fingers became captured by the curls.
Perhaps that story delights me because it
stands as a wonderful example of our
always innocent attempts to explain the world. No matter how long our lives, no
matter how far our experience takes us our lives remain connected, always loop
back to that center of our identity, our
spirit.
