Homework-January 18, 2017

Art Homework
Ms. Stillwagon
January 18, 2017
Read Elie Wiesel's acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize. Then complete one of the levels below.

Elie Wiesel’s Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech

Nuetral=        Oppressor

“[T]he world did know [about the suffering of the Jews during WWII] and remained silent. And that is why I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Sometimes we must interfere. Whenever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must—at that moment—become the center of the universe.

There is so much to be done, there is so much that can be done. One person— a Martin Luther King Jr.—one person can make a difference, a difference of life and death. What all these victims need above all is to know that they are not alone; that we are not forgetting them."

LEVEL 1: Draw a picture that illustrates: IF someone or a group of people were being hurt, what would you do?

LEVEL 2: IF someone or a group of people were being hurt, what would you do?

LEVEL 3: IF someone or a group of people were being hurt, what would you do? Do you agree with Elie Wiesel's message in his speech? Explain.
